Nairobi 2040 explores the hypothetical scenario of Nairobi, Kenya as the host of the 2040 Summer Olympics. After a thorough amount of research around past Olympics, along with Kenyan and Nairobi culture, I created several marketing assets as the beginnings of an identity for the games.
The logomark was created as a kaleidoscopic style design, in reference to the Kenyan language of Sheng, a multilingual language of the locals created using a mix of the national language Kiswahili, sprinkled with words also of various native languages and additionally with English words (second national language). Also referenced in the logo was the iconic interior roof design of the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), the building initially responsible for putting Kenya on the international stage with its use as a summit location in the 1980s.

The pictograms were created with an angular style to flow with the logomark and type, while also separating from the precise strokes of the mark, this time introducing a variable stroke width to emphasize the focus of human achievement represented in the Olympics.
The sport tickets introduced the triangular background pattern to flow with the pictograms and additionally reinforce the influence of the KICC building and its importance in Kenya's international relations history. On a larger scale, the patterns would be tailored for each event, as this archery example shows with the triangles in a direction reminiscent of an arrow.

The transportation livery continues to feature the angular marks and language established in the previous categories, using elements from both to create a consistent feel across the marketing materials. The pattern becoming a routine asset creates consistent visual appeal and eases the burden of fulfilling new ideas with less new parts to think up — I already know I want to use the pattern; it's a matter of figuring out how I'd like to use it.
